In an extremely close race, Liberal incumbent Kevin Lamoureux beat the NDP's Rebecca Blaikie by about 100 votes, according to unofficial results. Blaikie is the daughter of former NDP MP, and current MLA, Bill Blaikie.

The NDP's Judy Wasylycia-Leis held the riding of Winnipeg North from 1997 to 2010. She stepped down in 2010 to run for mayor of Winnipeg. The Liberal's Kevin Lamoureux won the 2010 byelection to replace Wasylycia-Leis.

Also running against incumbent Lamoureux in the riding were the Conservative's Ann Matejicka, the Communist Party's Frank Komarniski and the Green Party's John Harvie.

"At the end of the day whatever happens across the country, I'm committed to making a difference. I feel passionate about my party. I love my constituents and I just want to make a difference," said Lamoureux.
