WINNIPEG -- Large gatherings will remain at no more than 10 people, however, that may be increased by mid-May.

Premier Brian Pallister made the announcement as part of his plan to reopen Manitoba’s economy gradually starting on May 4.

Pallister said everyone is still expected to follow social distancing rules and also noted that Dr. Brent Roussin said Manitobans should not expect to see mass gatherings like major sporting events, concerts, or festivals any earlier than September 2020.

“That will not be realistic for some time,” Pallister said.

Pallister said that if Manitobans go continue with safety practices to help flatten the curve gatherings for things like attending weddings, church, or a funeral could be raised to 25 people by mid-May.

But, the message to those who aren’t heeding health warnings and want to gather in larger groups remains the same.

“Don’t do it, it’s dangerous,” said Pallister.
