The roadblocks at city hall to build a long-awaited underpass in south Winnipeg may finally be cleared.

The Mayor's Executive Policy committee committed $155 million in funding for the Waverley-Taylor underpass.

Some councillors stalled the process citing concerns about a $12.3 million sole source contract and lack of information on the project.

Mayor Brian Bowman and the city's administration warned if this didn't get the green light this month, it could lead to delays and cost over runs.

The file now moves to city council next week for final approval.

Roughly 40 trains and 30,000 vehicles pass through the intersection daily.
