Terry Sawchuk was one the NHL's all-time greatest goalies.
He was a four-time Stanley Cup champion, and an eleven-time all-star, who got his start in Winnipeg.
It's the city where Sawchuck would develop his trademark crouch, where he put his mask-less face directly in the puck's line of fire.
"To be able to stand there in his style, bent over basically face fist to the puck, everything about it just amazes me," said Rick Brownlee from the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
Despite Sawchuk’s accomplishments, many people don't know much about his early years.
But a new documentary about his life, titled “Made in Winnipeg: The Terry Sawchuk Origin Story,” has just been completed and aims to provide a piece of hockey history.
"There's an arena, there's books and there's videos; but there's nothing recent," said Danny Schur, the film’s director.
The film traces Sawhcuk's early struggles and triumphs, and celebrates his success on the ice. It features never-before-seen photos, fresh interviews and a historical re-enactment.
Audiences can see the half-hour bio-documentary on the ice at the Terry Sawhuck Memorial Arena, 901 Kimberly Ave., 8 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 26.
