After being forced to close in early November for a mould problem, Maginot Arena is scheduled to re-open the week of Dec. 19.

Programs will resume next week at the facility.

Work to address the mould issue is now complete, said city officials. A dehumidifier has also been brought in to reduce humidity levels.

The city's community services department will be contacting all major users of Maginot Arena to let them know programming at the facility is set to resume.

Along with Maginot, three other city arenas previously showed signs of mould, including Bertrand, Roland Michener and St. Vital.

An environmental consulting engineer determined airborne spore levels of predominant mould species were at "at or below typical summertime outdoor mould levels in Winnipeg," said the city. The three arenas have remained open for programming.

Air samples will continue to be taken at the sites and any additional work needed will be carried out when the winter season wraps up in March 2012.

The city also said in November it has enhanced its air-quality management program, adding inspections for mould in civic arenas, along with the current's program of checking for carbon monoxide.
