Police have made an arrest in a spree of break and enters across the city stretching back more than a year.

Since March 12, 2013, police have received numerous reports of break-ins in apartments in both the east and west districts of the city in which cash, electronics and other valuable items were taken.

Police estimate the value of damaged and stolen property at $80,000.

On March 19, 2014, a caretaker at an apartment building in the 300 block of Poplar Avenue noticed a man acting suspiciously. The caretaker and another confronted the suspicious person and a struggle ensued, but they were able to hold him until police arrived.

The police investigation eventually led to the execution of a search warrant in the 100 block of Lynn Lake Road, where they found some of the stolen property.

Ros Melnyk, 20, faces numerous charges including 31 counts of break and enter, assault, and possessing break and enter instruments, said police.

He is being held at the remand centre.
