Winnipeg police said a man faces an attempted kidnapping charge after a suspect tried to pull a 16-year-old girl into a vehicle.

Around 3 p.m. on Nov. 11, the girl had been walking in the area of Main Street and Bannerman Avenue when a red SUV started following her.

The driver of the SUV pulled up beside the girl and honked. The girl ignored him and kept walking southbound on Main Street. When she reached Main Street and St. John’s Avenue, the suspect stopped his vehicle in the girl’s path, grabbed her arm and demanded she get inside the SUV, said police.

The victim managed to break free. As she left, the suspect threw a plastic bottle at the girl, hitting her in the lower body, said police.

After fleeing, the victim managed to call police.

Multiple patrol units responded and spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s SUV near Salter Street and Magnus Avenue around 3:45 p.m.

Police arrested the suspect following a traffic stop.

Julian Littlechief, 27, of Saskatchewan faces charges for attempted kidnapping and assault with a weapon, said police.
