A man is in custody after a downtown home was robbed and a man inside was brutally assaulted then lit on fire.

Police said the incident happened Tuesday at around 2 p.m.. Two suspects, a man and a woman, forced entry into a home in the 300 block of Qu’Appelle Avenue, officials said.

According to police, a 27-year-old man inside the home was confronted, physically assaulted and robbed of property.

Police said while the victim lay on the floor, a flammable liquid was poured on him and ignited. The suspects then fled the scene.

Passers-by heard the man call for help and called 911.

Emergency personnel found the injured man and transported him to hospital with numerous serious injuries. Police said he is in stable condition, but suffered burns to various parts of his body.

At around 2:30 p.m. that day, police arrested Royce Darcy Berens, 34.

Police said he has been charged with numerous offences.
