The biggest airshow to hit Manitoba skies is getting ready to take flight Saturday.

The 2016 Manitoba Airshow happening at the Southport Airport in Portage la Prairie, is the biggest aviation show to be hosted in Manitoba in nearly a decade.

The air displays include demonstrations by the Snowbirds and the CF-18 Demo Team. A skydiving demonstration was cancelled due to rain.

There is also a search-and-rescue demonstration involving the Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue and a CC-130 Hercules.

The excitement isn't just in the air. On the ground will be model planes and a car show, accompanied by live local music.

There is also a travelers-themed fashion show.

The gates open Saturday June 4 at 9:30 a.m., and the closing ceremony will start at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25, kids under 12 are free. All profits from the show will be distributed between five Manitoba charities.
