WINNIPEG -- Health officials in Manitoba announced 12 new deaths related to COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the death toll to 717.

The youngest death on the day was a man in his 30s from the Northern Health Region. Two deaths came from the Prairie Mountain Health Region, including a man in his 60s and a woman in her 90s from the Fairview Personal Care Home outbreak.

There was one death from the Southern Health Region, a woman in her 60s.

The other eight deaths are from the Winnipeg area including:

  • A woman in her 50s;
  • A woman in her 60s linked to the outbreak at Convalescent Home of Winnipeg;
  • A woman in her 70s;
  • Three women in their 80s. One is connected to the Concordia Personal Care Home outbreak, one from the River East Personal Care Home outbreak, and one not linked to any outbreak; and
  • Two people in their 90s, a man from the Charleswood Care Centre outbreak and a woman from the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home outbreak.

Officials also announced 208 new cases, but they noted seven previous cases were removed due to data errors.

There have been 25,742 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Of the new cases. 105 are from the Winnipeg area, 60 are from the Northern Health Region, 17 cases from each of the Prairie Mountain Health Region and Southern Health Region, and nine from the Interlake-Eastern Health Region.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 9.9 per cent and 10.5 per cent in Winnipeg.

There are 4,506 active cases and 20,519 people have recovered from COVID-19.

There are currently 228 people in hospital, 31 of which are in intensive care.

There are also another 91 people in hospital that have recovered from COVID-19 but still require care; four of those people are intensive care.

On Wednesday, 2,132 tests were performed, bringing the total to 432,839 since February 2020.
