The Manitoba Junior Hockey League handed out suspensions for 86 games Wednesday in connection with incidents at a game on March 12 between the Swan Valley Stampeders and Portage Terriers.

Swan Valley forward Jesse Enns has been banned for 40 games for a hit from behind with three seconds left in the playoff series.

Assistant coaches Dallas Anderson from Swan Valley and Jim Tkachyk from Portage were each suspended 22 games after fighting in the team benches at the conclusion of the game.

Stampeders' head coach Dwayne Kirkup also received a two-game suspension and a $1,000 fine for receiving a gross misconduct penalty and for not having proper control of the players on the bench.

Commissioner Kim Davis was also in attendance at the game.

"The MJHL takes a very dim view of violence in any form," said Davis in a press release. "This type of activity will not be tolerated and will be dealt with in a severe fashion. Our coaches are expected to set an example to their players, with respect to proper behaviour and sportsmanship."
