A 19-year-old Brandon woman says an imposter used her Facebook photos to start an online relationship.
Alex Marshall, a former Miss Teen Canada contestant, found out her photos had been stolen when she was contacted by a stranger who noticed her profile picture was the same as the imposter's.
The imposter is calling herself Heather Marshall.
The man who alerted Alex to the situation says he's been in contact with the other woman for a year.
Alex and her mother have contacted Facebook but have not received a response. She also contacted police, who told her to continue trying to contact Facebook.
In the meantime, Alex says she's tightening her Facebook security settings and warning others to do the same.
CTV News contacted the man who claims he was in a long-distance relationship with the person claiming to be Heather Marshall. He said every time he wanted to meet her in person, she cancelled at the last minute. The man said the person had an Ontario area code.
A spokesperson for Facebook said it is a violation of their policies to use a fake name or to operate under a false identity.
The spokesperson said they encourage people to report anyone they think is doing so. Contact forms are located in the "help center" portion of Facebook's website.
