City owned pools could soon have more eyes on swimmers besides lifeguards.

The community services department is requesting $333,000 to install security cameras at aquatic facilities to deter sexual predators.

A report says the cutting edge surveillance would be placed in high traffic areas to help identify people engaging in criminal behavior.

The department says savings would be realized by cutting down the time it takes to investigate incidents.

Earlier this year the city announced new safety and security for indoor pools after a hidden camera was found in a change room at Pan Am pool.
