A Duncan Hines cake mix is being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Pinnacle Foods Canada Corporation issued the recall for its Apple Caramel Cake Mix.

They said people should not consume the product with the best before dates of April 7 and 8 of 2017, as well as June 29 and Sept. 27 of 2017.

If people get sick from the cake mix, Health Canada said they should contact a doctor immediately.

The organization said that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make people sick.

According to Health Canada, “young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product as of yet.

People that have the recalled product in their home should throw it out or return to the store where it was purchased, Health Canada said.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, they will notify the public.
