Health Canada has issued a recall for both children’s and adult vitamins from Church & Dwight Canada Corp. as they contain excessive vitamin D levels.

L'il Critters Vitamin D3 and Vitafusion Calcium Adult Gummy Vitamins are being recalled after the company’s testing identified higher levels of vitamin D.

The product contained almost four times the level of vitamin D that was indicated on its label, said Health Canada.

The tested amount is more than the tolerable intake amount for children eight and under.

Health Canada said that if this amount is consumed, children eight and under can experience vitamin D “intoxication” leading to serious side effects such as headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, lack of appetite, irritability, dehydration, fatigue and weight loss.

Health Canada said it is monitoring the recall and is encouraging users to report any reactions associated with the products on their website or by calling the toll-free number 1-800-267-9675.
