Manitoba RCMP said 50 people have been charged with impaired driving offenses during its Holiday Checkstop Program, with the highest blood/alcohol reading reported at four times the legal limit.

The first week of the program ran from Dec. 1 to 10. Officials said 2,383 vehicles were checked at 51 checkstops across the province.

RCMP said all 50 people charged with impaired driving offences were alcohol related incidents.

Meanwhile, police reported 882 traffic-related provincial statute charges, the majority being from speeding and seatbelt offences, along with 200 warnings.

Officers said there were no traffic-related fatalities during the first week of the program.
