The search continues for a 24-year-old Portage la Prairie woman who went missing almost a week ago.

More than 100 volunteers were combing the area south of downtown Portage Friday.

Manitoba Search and Rescue has joined the efforts.

"This is our primary target right here. This is a large area that we need to search," said a volunteer. They've mapped out a two kilometre area on the outskirts of Portage La Prairie. It's the last place anyone saw Amber Lynn McFarland.

Searchers are even searching by air. They have a chopper going back and forth in the sky above the search area.

Volunteers know the situation grows more desperate with every passing hour.

Crystal Neudorf is one of those volunteers, and for her it's personal.

"She's a doll. She's the only 24-year-old I know. I'm a mom with 3 kids, I can call her up and say hey Amber can you help me, the house is a mess, I've got company and she's there, does her whirly bird thing and the whole place is cleaned up. Anything she can do to help. So we all have to try and do that," said Neudorf.

Searchers are looking for anything that might lead them in the right direction.

"We're looking for her phone, keys, her purse, articles of clothing, anything last seen with her, shoes, pack of cigarettes she smokes, all that stuff." said Nick Skrabek.

Manitoba Search and Rescue plans to resume its search for McFarland on Saturday morning. The RCMP is not involved in this search. They are still investigating her disappearance.

The McFarland family was too anxious to join the search Friday. But they are desperate for answers, and asking anyone with information to come forward.

The 24-year-old was last seen on Saturday Oct. 18 in the Portage la Prairie area.

She has blonde hair, green eyes, stands about 5'6"-5'7", and weighs 135 lbs. She was wearing a black sweater and blue jeans when she went missing.

Anyone who may be able to help in the investigation is asked to call the Mounties in Portage at 204-857-4445, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
