Winnipeg police have laid arson charges against a 33-year-old man after a fire swept through a Sherbrook Street apartment block Sunday, causing $150,000 damage.

Smoke poured from the building around 4 p.m. while fire fighters ran in and out of the building, attempting to extinguish the blaze.

At least three fire trucks, several police cruisers and a number of emergency vehicles were on scene in the 700 block of Sherbrook to assist in fighting the fire.

Police said the fire was deliberately set and quickly discovered by the building’s tenants, who all managed to get out of the building safely.

Police also had to block off traffic on a portion of Sherbrook and Cumberland Avenue near the fire while crews worked.

Now, 33-year-old Clifford James Mousseau is facing multiple charges including arson with disregard for human life and two counts of breach of probation.
