Manitoba RCMP said one of their officers died while on duty Friday.

Late Friday night on Twitter, police said the officer was killed in a motor vehicle collision on the Perimeter Highway.

The RCMP tweeted its thoughts were with his family during this difficult time and more information will be released Saturday.

 

Other people, including Premier Brian Pallister, also tweeted their condolences.

@marcotwentysix tweeted, "He was part of my hockey family. He enjoyed playing the game and he was an honest player and a good person. His smile in the dressing room will be with me always."

"So very saddened for my colleagues with the @rcmpmb from all of us at @BrandonPolice our most sincere condolences," tweeted Chief Wayne Balcaen of the Brandon Police Service.

RCMP are expected to release more details this afternoon.
