Police have made arrested a second man in connection with the Amber McFarland murder.

On Wednesday, RCMP arrested a 40-year-old man in Portage la Prairie, and on Thursday they arrested a 39-year-old Portage la Prairie man and brought him in for questioning.

Amber McFarland disappeared more than eight months ago.

The 24-year-old was last seen leaving a Portage la Prairie bar in October.

Police searched some property near Portage just a few weeks ago and had ruled the case a homicide earlier this month.

McFarland's sister tells CTV News the family has been notified by RCMP that they have arrested a suspect in the case.

We spoke with Mounties late Wednesday afternoon and have been told the man is being held for questioning, and on Wednesday a search warrant was executed at his residence in Portage la Prairie.

At this point it is not clear what the relationship of either man is with McFarland, and police are not releasing their names, but CTV News has learned the two men were those last seen with McFarland.

McFarland's sister Lisa says the family is happy an arrest has been made, but says it fails to bring closure and the family has been on a roller coaster of emotions ever since Amber went missing.

While RCMP have called this a homicide investigation they have not recovered a body.

The 24-year-old would have turned 25 in just a few weeks, on July 28.

Amber McFarland was last seen on the evening of Oct. 18, 2008 in the Portage la Prairie area.
