Winnipeg police have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a man on Feb. 26 at a rooming house in the 600 block of Balmoral Street.

Some residents in the area refer to the home as “Murder Mansion” because of multiple violent crimes there in the past.

On Mar. 1, police released details on the investigation into the death of Ronald Harold McKinnon, 54. He was found dead at the Balmoral residence around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 26.

Police said an investigation showed the victim and several residents were at a party within one of the suites the evening of Feb. 25.

A confrontation between the suspect and the victim broke out and the victim was assaulted, said police.

The victim later returned to his suite. He was found dead the next day.

An autopsy determined the victim died from injuries in the assault.

Officers located the suspect in the 500 block of Notre Dame Avenue on Feb. 28.

Robert Steward Maier, 38, of Winnipeg faces a charge for manslaughter, said police.
