Winnipeg police have arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting almost two years ago that claimed the life of one victim and injured a second man.

Officers were called to the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue on June 13, 2009 after two men were shot.

A 27-year-old man was taken to hospital in stable condition while a 28-year-old man, Wayne Roger Michelle, was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died from injuries, said police.

The two victims had been walking in the area when they were approached by suspects.

A gun was fired and both victims were hit, said police. It's believed the shooting was part of a gang rivalry.

On Friday, officers said two suspects had been arrested as part of an investigation.

William Evan LaPorte, 21, and an 18-year-old man, who was a youth at the time of the alleged offence, have both been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder with a weapon, said police.

LaPorte was also charged in September 2010 alongside two other suspects for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Dylan Ferland in July of last year.
