A 32-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of her daughter, said RCMP.

Both the victim and suspect are from the town of Stuartburn, about 100 km southeast of Winnipeg.

The girl's name is Dillon Belanger, but she's known by family as Breana, said relatives.

She was rushed to Children's Hospital in Winnipeg by ambulance on Sunday, but died from severe injuries from an assault, said RCMP.

CTV News has learned the family moved to the community of Stuartburn just a few weeks ago.

"I don't know what she went through, but it's terrible. It's not something you'd want to see happen to your children, grandchildren, or neighbour's child. Any child," one neighbour said.

Two other children, a 13-year-old and a baby, from the home are now in the care of CFS.

32-year-old Mary Belanger is charged with second-degree murder.

RCMP continue to investigate the case.
