Lachine borough mayor Maja Vodanovic drops out of race to succeed Valerie Plante

Lachine borough mayor Maja Vodanovic dropped out of the race to lead Projet Montreal and is supporting fellow borough mayor Luc Rabouin.

Vodanovic entered the leadership race on Dec. 16 and said the past two months have been “very intense,” and that she wants to focus on projects in her borough.

“This adventure allowed me to meet different groups and individuals and confirmed how much I love listening, seeking understanding and helping people around me,” she wrote on Facebook.

“I also realized how particularly attached I am to the citizens of Lachine who I have had the privilege to represent and serve for eleven years. Got a couple projects together that are progressing nicely but still need a lot of work. New challenges in our community are also disturbing me and require my full attention.”

She said the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough mayor, Rabouin, shares her values and vision for the city.

“His deep reflection, experience, and keen knowledge of Montreal make him the person best prepared to face the challenges ahead,” she said. “Luc is thoughtful and experienced. He knows Montreal well and is well-prepared to face the challenges ahead.”

Rabouin is considered a front-runner to succeed Mayor Valerie Plante, who announced she would not seek a third term in office in October.
