Two RCMP officers face assault charges for an alleged incident from 2008, said RCMP.

The police force received a complaint Nov. 13, 2008 that a 19-year-old Powerview resident was allegedly assaulted while being transported by Powerview RCMP in October.

The 19-year-old resident was being transported from Traverse Bay to the Lac du Bonnet detachment.

RCMP began an investigation into the complaint and laid assault charges against two officers on Jan. 19 after being contacted by Manitoba Justice about laying charges earlier in the month.

Cpl. Jeffrey Thomas Moyse, 40, and Const. Trevor Kyle Ens, 29, were charged with assault and have court appearances scheduled for February, said RCMP.

Cpl. Moyse released a statement in response on Jan. 20.

"The complainant in this incident alleging assault against myself and (Const.) Ens was, as a matter of public record, arrested and charged at the time of the incident. (The complainant) was arrested and charged formally at that time with assault peace officer, utter threats, and resist arrest...we believe in the judicial process and that the truth will come out during these hearings," said the statement.

The police force has launched an internal disciplinary review and both officers have been transferred from the Powerview RCMP to other detachments.
