Officers have arrested a suspect for the murder of Joshua Bentley, 18, on the weekend in Winnipeg.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, emergency crews and officers responded to the Osborne Street Bridge area for a report of an assault.
They found Bentley and a 20-year-old man with serious upper body injuries. Emergency crews rushed both men to hospital in critical condition. Bentley later died from injuries. The 20-year-old man was upgraded to stable and later released.
Police said an investigation showed the victims had been at a party in the area. A suspect, who they did not know, was also there, along with two females.
The suspect and two females left the party before the victims.
The suspect stayed in his vehicle outside the apartment block, before getting out to confront the victims when they left the building, said police.
Officers said Bentley was attacked, suffering extensive trauma to the upper body, while the 20-year-old man also suffered an upper body injury.
The victims fled east across the bridge where emergency crews found them and rushed them to hospital.
Patrol members, the homicide unit, street crime unit and forensic identification team all worked on the investigation.
On Jan. 26, officers arrested Mowlid Korane Mohamed, 26, of Winnipeg and charged him with second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault and uttering threats, said police.
The homicide unit continues to carry out interviews in the case.
