Two suspects are facing second-degree murder charges after a man, who was found beaten in a North End yard, died in hospital.

Zenon Sylvester Bozynski, 48, was found injured at about 9 a.m. on Saturday in a rear yard in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue. He was rushed to hospital for surgery, but died from his injuries, police said.

Police spokesperson Natalie Aitken said Bozynski was assaulted, but officers don't believe a weapon was used.

She said he was not dressed for the bitterly cold weather and he may have been having trouble getting into the rooming house where he lives when he was attacked.

Police believe the suspects and the victim did now know each other, Aitken said.

Police do not know exactly when the attack occurred, but they believe the victim may have been lying outside for several hours before he was discovered at 9 a.m. Police learned of the attacked when resident of the area alerted police that there was a man in need of medical attention.

An autopsy is still pending and officers are examining how the cold and the assault factored into his death.

Jamie Jossens Morrisseau, 27, of Winnipeg and Gamielle William Harry Courchene, 25, of Fort Alexander are charged with second degree murder.

Morrisseau was arrested in a suit in the rooming house near to where the attack occurred, police said.

Both suspects are in custody.
