A double hit for parts of East Winnipeg Tuesday evening.

First, the City of Winnipeg reported a mechanical malfunction at the MacLean Pumping Station that resulted in poor water pressure and discoloured water in East Winnipeg. Residents in South Winnipeg also reported issues.

Before 10 p.m., the city reported it had restored power to the station, though warned East Winnipeg could experience discoloured water as pressure returned to normal.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority reported low water pressure at Concordia Hospital, where water was unavailable to wash hands and flush toilets for part of Tuesday evening. It has been restored without a serious impact to patients or staff. Ambulances were temporarily redirected.

In parts of Transcona, a power outage also affected about 1,800 customers in areas between the CPR main line and Kildonan Meadows.

Manitoba Hydro said a pole-top fire near Regent Avenue West and Plessis Road affected a transmission line, which is more powerful than a regular distribution line and can cause a widespread outage.

Police detoured traffic in the area as hydro crews replaced the 70-foot pole. At 7:45 p.m., Hydro estimated it could take a few hours to make repairs and restore power.

Hydro said damp weather commonly results in short circuits and pole top fires this time of year.

The Winnipeg Police Service also reported traffic back-ups near Elizabeth Road and Archibald Street as a result of a railway crossing malfunction and said it had notified Canadian Pacific Railway. It said the problem did not appear to be a result of the power outage.
