Vehicle stuck on train tracks leads to impaired driving charges for Timmins suspect

A 24-year-old from Timmins has been charged with impaired driving following an early morning incident on railway tracks in Kapuskasing.

Ontario Provincial Police responded at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday to a report that a vehicle was stuck on train tracks near the intersection of Government Road and Brunelle Road South.

“Police coordinated with the rail company to confirm the tracks were clear and no trains were operating in the area,” OPP said in a news release.

“By the time police arrived, the vehicle had been pushed off the tracks. During the interaction with the driver, police determined that they had consumed an alcoholic beverage.”

The driver was arrested and taken to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. The Timmins suspect was charged with two impaired driving offences and released.

They have a court date of Feb. 24 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing.

In addition, the accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
