Driver ‘borrowing dad’s car’ stopped for speeding on Ottawa road

A 19-year-old driver will have to explain to their dad why his car is impounded for the next two weeks after being stopped for speeding in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer observed a vehicle travelling 114 km/h in a 60 km/h zone along Riverside Drive Tuesday.

The driver was “borrowing Dad’s car,” according to police.

Police charged the driver with stunt driving, which includes an automatic 30-day driver’s license suspension, and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Officers were focusing on “high-risk drivers” on roads across Ottawa on Tuesday.

Police say a 24-year-old driver was stopped doing 134 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Limebank Road.

Suspended driver stopped for fifth time

A 29-year-old suspended driver was stopped by Ottawa police on Tuesday.

Officers use the Automatic License Plate Reader technology to look for suspended drivers on Ottawa roads.

“OPS Traffic Unit tracking down a 29-year-old Suspended Driver for the 5th time (most recent suspension July ‘21). Vehicle held until May court date,” police said.
