A boat that has made Manitoba memories for decades on the Red River is up for sale.

Captain Steve Hawchuk started operating the Paddlewheel Princess in his early 30s when he was tired of working at a gravel and concrete company.

"We carried people, from the schools, to seniors citizens, to tourists, to corporate business, to government, royalty, we hauled everybody, practically. So, it was quite interesting," he said.

He retired in 2011, but a year later he jumped back aboard because he says he got so many phone calls from people asking him to bring it back.

Now, he says it's really time to stop working.

Every year, it needs a new coat of paint and general maintenance, but Hawchuk said the boat is in great condition overall, with a new engine and rudders.

"The Princess is still available and anybody that's younger and interested in boating and a challenge could make a really good go of it," he said.

Hawchuk isn't revealing the price publicly, but said if you're interested, give him a call.

He said he has the business contacts and is ready to negotiate with someone who wants to see it on the water once again.
