The Winnipeg Police service might not be getting body cameras anytime soon, but parking officers could soon be outfitted with the technology.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority is asking for $210,000 for a pilot project that would see parking officers wear the cameras.

A report to the city's innovation committee says evidence from the cameras could help resolve ticket disputes faster with vehicle owners. It also says the technology can assist for training purposes leading to fewer errors.

Due to a budget battle with city hall, the police service cancelled its planned body camera program.
