The cost of a Canadian passport is going up.

Starting July 1, 2013 a regular passport will cost $120, up from $87.

If you think your passport may be missing, check soon – replacements for lost or stolen ones are currently free, but will cost $45 starting in July.

Passport Canada says the fee increase is needed to cover the cost of operations and enhanced passport security.

If you want to replace your passport before the new fees come in, you can get it renewed up to a year before its expiry date, or earlier with an accepted explanation.

Passport Canada is also introducing a new 10-year passport in July, which will cost $160.
