The trial of Karl Wesley McKay and Samantha Kematch resumed in a Winnipeg courtroom on Friday.

The first witness to testify was Loretta Stevenson, the ex-wife of McKay.

She said she found out something was wrong when she took her youngest son to a walk-in clinic shortly after he came back from visiting his father.

Stevenson said she knew something was bothering him and when she asked him what was wrong he put his face in his hands, leaned over and said "my dad killed somebody."

She then testified that she called child and family services which prompted a police investigation.
