Winnipeg police are asking for the public's help in connection with a cold-case murder investigation.

In October 2010, Tiffany Johnston, a 21-year-old mother of two, left a house party on Selkirk Avenue around 4 a.m.

Police said she was shot numerous times in a narrow alley.

The house on Selkirk where the party was held was well-known to police, but the murder remains unsolved.

"The thing that really bothers us in the homicide unit is that Tiffany was a true victim - she just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time," said Det. Sgt. Wade McDonald from Winnipeg police.

Tashie McKay was friends with Johnston.

"I always remember her talking about her unborn child, because she was pregnant at the time when she was going to school with me. And she was happy about that – talking about what she'll name her baby," said McKay.

For her family's sake, he wants the murder solved. But, he also believes some people with information may be too afraid to speak out.

As in many investigations, getting people to come forward and tell officers what they know has proven a challenge in the investigation into Johnston's death.

"We believe someone knows something and we are hoping that person and I'm encouraging that person contact the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit with their information," said Wade McDonald.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the homicide unit at 986-6508, or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
