WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg police have identified the victim of the city's 14th homicide of 2020 in the Daniel McIntyre neighbourhood.

Police said officers found 23-year-old Noah Soloman Nigussie at a residence in the 700 block of Victor Street on Friday afternoon.

"Just after noon, 12:45 p.m., Winnipeg police had responded to a report of a male that had been injured at a residence," said Const. Rob Carver.

"He was transported to hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately he was later pronounced deceased."

Police couldn't speak to the type of injuries Nigussie sustained. Police tape was still surrounding the scene and the Winnipeg Police Identification Unit was parked outside the residence as of Saturday afternoon.

Fanta Marah has been a resident in the area for three years, and lives down the street from Nigussie.

She said on Friday police knocked on her door.

"I asked him is anything wrong, he's like 'oh, we're just investigating', but I didn't know what happened. I didn't know it was Noah," Marah told CTV news.

She said she saw Nigussie often in the neighbourhood and had spoken to him just last week.

"(He was) always smiling," Marah said. "When we were standing here, he never passed without saying hi."

Marah said she's still in shock over the loss of her neighbour.

"I'm just going to go there and today and just put some flowers. That's so sad."

Police said no arrests have been made. The homicide unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
