Winnipeg police have issued a new advisory regarding a scam targeting elderly women in the Polish community.

Police previously issued a notice about the scam last month.

Officers have not been alerted to 13 incidents.

An investigation has determined the suspect, or suspects, have been targeting elderly women in the Polish community, speaking fluent Polish and requesting money from the victim due to an urgent matter, said officers.

In one recent case, a victim was defrauded of $6,000.

Police encourage members of the public to discuss the scam with friends or family who they feel may be vulnerable to the pressure tactics.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to contact investigators at 986-3912. People can also help police by starting a call trace by hitting *57 on their phone if a person received a suspicious call.
