Winnipeg police are advising the public that a sex offender with a history of violent offenses has been released from jail and is taking up residence in Winnipeg.

Officers say Kenneth Erdley Ross, 44, has a criminal record for aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault.

He was released from Headingly Correctional Institution on Oct. 26 after serving eight months for breach of a recognizance.

While in prison, Ross refused to participate in any treatment and is considered at high risk to re-offend, said police.

Officers say all people are at risk.

Ross is described as Caucasian, five feet nine inches (181 cm) in height, weighing 163 pounds (74 kg) with grey hair, green eyes with a half-moon shaped scar on his left thumb, along with a scar on his right thumb and a scar on his forehead.

Anyone wishing to speak with police about Ross is asked to call 984-1888.

Police say vigilante activity against Ross will not be tolerated.
