The Winnipeg Police Service is asking for the public's help in indentifying a person of interest in connection with a serious sexual assault.

Police released images from surveillance video Wednesday morning and describe the man as being in his late 30s or early 40s, 6'0" tall, with short black hair and clean shaven.

Officers say the victim of the serious sexual assault is a 22-year-old woman.

The woman was approached by an unknown man in the area of Main Street and Bannatyne Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. on March 20, say police.

Police say the two began talking and got on the same bus, eventually exiting together in the area of Osborne St and Walker Ave. Police say the two then went into a convenience store, left together and walked towards the St. Vital Bridge.

Officers say it was at that time the serious sexual assault happened. The victim fled and the man followed her and robbed her, say police.

Anyone with information on this incident or can identify the man in question is asked to call police at 986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 786-8477.
