Police have seized almost 1000 marijuana plants valued at over $1 million in a drug bust in Winnipeg’s St. James neighbourhood.
Just before 10 a.m. Thursday police executed a drug search warrant at a home in the 500 block of Madison Street.
Police said what they found in the home was a “sophisticated” grow-op. Officers seized 987 marijuana plants with a street value of over $1.1 million. They also seized grow-op equipment worth $65,000 and eight bags of marijuana valued at $20,000.
Two Winnipeg men are now facing charges multiple charges. Garry Reid Schindle, 62, and Devron Theodore Lee, 36, are facing charges of production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police said the search and arrests were the result of an on-going investigation across multiple departments including the Winnipeg Police Service Green Team, vice unit, tactical support team and the Department of Justice.
Both men have been released from police custody on a promise to appear.
