Thousands of people turned out in downtown Winnipeg to take part in the annual Pride Parade on Sunday.

Festivities began with a rally at the Manitoba Legislature at 11 a.m. followed by the parade at noon.

Evan Weins, who fought for a Gay-Straight Alliance at his high school in Steinbach, was an honourary parade marshall.

"There's still that work that needs to be done and I just really hope that this is a step," he said, "At least in Steinbach, to hopefully change the culture."

Following the parade, their was a free festival at The Forks featuring live entertainment.
