RCMP are investigating a crash on a washed-out road that claimed the life of a driver on the weekend.

A 46-year-old man from the RM of Gilbert Plains died Saturday when his grain truck plunged into a washed-out section of road near Grandview.

The vehicle plummetted about 15 to 20 feet (four to six metres)

It happened at about 2 p.m. on Road 150 West near Highway 5.

Local politicians said a fast melt sent water ripping through the road in early May and that it was immediately closed off while the RM of Grandview, which is managing the road, ordered a replacement culvert.

RCMP said warning signs blocking the road may have been moved or knocked over, prior to the crash. Residents said winds may also be to blame.

An RCMP traffic collision analyst is investigating the crash.

RM officials were not available to comment on June 3.
