Homeowners in the Winnipeg School Division will likely be paying more school taxes this year.

The division's draft budget includes a 6.8 per cent hike, or $72 for the average assessed home.

Officials say the increase is needed to pay for rising salaries, utilities and building maintenance. They say no positions are being added and the budget ensures no programs will be cut.

Homeowners can voice their concerns about the draft document at a meeting planned for Feb. 25.
