Police have arrested a 13-year-old suspect in connection with a brazen daytime shooting. They say the victim, a 15-year-old boy, may have loosely known the suspect; but the attack was likely random.

On Wednesday afternoon, the 15-year-old was walking down Flora Avenue when another boy opened fire. The victim was hit twice. He was rushed to hospital in unstable condition, but has since been upgraded to stable.

The 13-year-old suspect was arrested hours later. He was already facing outstanding charges of robbery and assault, and now faces eight new charges including aggravated assault and careless use of a firearm.

Police will not say if they have recovered the weapon used in the shooting.

The high-level of violence from someone so young has police concerned - especially because they do not know what motivated the attack.

The 13-year-old is being held at the Manitoba Youth Centre. His next court appearance is set for October 20.
