A fire has claimed two hog barns at the Silverado hog operation near Sarto.
Steinbach RCMP report the fire call came in at about 3:30 Thursday morning.
The farm is about seven kilometers south of Sarto on Highway 12 in the R.M. of La Broquerie.
RCMP say someone passing by saw the fire and notified the owners. Four local area Fire Departments attended the fire.
Fire crews managed to save one barn, but two more were destroyed. It's not known how many hogs were killed in the blaze.
RCMP Steinbach Detachment with the assistance of the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner are now investigating the cause of the fire.
On Friday, a spokesman for Hytek said 5,200 hogs perished in the barn blaze.
Denis Vielfaure says almost 200 hogs escaped.
The surviving hogs will be moved to other sites.
Hytek is now working with insurance people and the province to determine the next steps.
Vielfaure says they need to explore the environmental regulations to know what kind of options are available for clean-up.
Damage estimates are unknown.
