An award-winning Manitoba singer has been charged with careless driving in a crash that killed his wife and four teenagers last year.

Errol Ranville was seriously injured but survived the crash outside of The Pas in October 2010.

He was driving a Jeep that crashed into a car carrying four teens near the Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

Ranville's wife Marcie and the teens died.

On Wednesday, RCMP confirmed they have charged Ranville with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

He's scheduled to make an appearance in court Dec. 15 in The Pas.

Last month, Ranville won a lifetime achievement award at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.
