The end of January marks three years since Alinda Lahteenmaki, 23, died in Winnipeg.

She plummeted 11 storeys from a suite on Assiniboine Avenue. Later this year, Lahteenmaki's boyfriend will stand trial for murder for her death.

Lahteenmaki's two sisters, Linda and Debbie Doucette, continue to grieve her death.

"You can't just sit there and not have a reaction to it. You can never be prepared for something like that, no matter how many times you hear the story," said Debbie Doucette.

Lahteenmaki struggled with drugs before her death, something which loved ones believe she would have overcome if given the chance.

"She wanted to get into nursing. She was into helping everyone and it's just sad no one gets to see that," said Debbie Doucette.

"She'd walk in a room – she'd brighten it up. She had everyone laughing," said Linda Doucette.

Lahteenmaki's boyfriend Mario Trunzo is charged with second-degree murder for her death. His trial is slated to start on Apr. 10.
