After that overnight dumping of snow in much of western Manitoba and south central, it’s the north’s turn to get a second look at winter.

That shortwave trough that brought about 20 centimetres to Winnipeg is making its way into the east and north. Areas like Pinawa and Sprague will see snowfall this afternoon, likely lasting overnight. About two centimetres is expected.

Meanwhile heavy snow is expected in the northeast. The Churchill and Gillam areas could see10 to 15 centimetres falling this afternoon and lasting overnight.

Overcast skies and snow are expected to last in the north for much of the weekend, as well.

Meanwhile, we’ll see a bit of sun in Winnipeg Friday afternoon with a high of -6C, well below the seasonal -5C. Winds will remain strong out of the northwest at 30 gusting to 50 kilometres per hour.

Temperatures get even more frigid overnight with a low of -17C. Meanwhile, skies will clear and remain that way into tomorrow, with plenty of sunshine and a high of -5C.
