For the second time in less than a week, a tornado touched down in southwestern Manitoba. Environment and Climate Change Canada confirms at tornado occured at 5:42 p.m. Thursday with estimated wind speeds of 90 to 130 km/h. The agency has rated it EF-0. That suggests damage, if any, was minimal. And no injuries were reported.
As for Friday, well, here comes the rain again... Only much more of it today in southeastern and south-central Manitoba.
A complicated disturbance from the Dakotas is moving northeast through southern Manitoba and into northwestern Ontario. It could bring anywhere from 50 to 75+ mm of rainfall to the southeast by tonight. Others areas including Winnipeg and south-central regions should receive much less, closer to 5 to 10 mm.
This system could also trigger thunderstorms. The main threat will be heavy rain.
The Manitoba government has issued a flood watch for southeastsern Manitoba. Officials say property owners are advised to take precautions as this system could bring localized overland flooding in the area.
The weekend will be much drier in Winnipeg. There's a slight chance of showers on Saturday, but we should otherwise expect a mix of sun clouds. Sunday will be even sunnier. Daytime highs will be in the mid-20s.
