The cold snap continues on Wednesday in southern Manitoba, although conditions in most areas are no longer considered 'extreme.'
Extreme cold warnings have ended for Winnipeg and most of the south. but they remain in place for the Interlake, eastern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.
But the ended warnings are really just a technicality; it is still a very cold day with highs only reaching the -20s with wind chill values in the -30s. There is still very much the risk of frostbite.
Where warnings continue, that's mainly because those regions are in for one last night tonight where wind chill values are expected to feel as cold as the -40s. Then, finally, the arctic ridge of high pressure responsible for the deep freeze will exit the province by Thursday evening.
With the cold snap broken, Thursday will see temperatures rebound to right around normal for late January in the south. Winnipeg's forecast high is -13C.
Temperatures will become even more mild by Friday and through the weekend. The tradeoff will be that those mild days will be mostly cloudy.
